The steamer Canton left Shanghai last week, ostensibly bound for Hongkong, but having twenty-five days' coal on board it is supposed that she intended to try to force the blockade at Port Arthur. On arriving at Woosung she broke down, and, instead of returning to Shanghai, workmen were sent down to her by a local engineering firm to effect the necessary repairs.
